Saggar Ware, medium lidded pot

Saggar Ware, medium lidded pot. 11 1/2″ tall, 5 1/2″ wide.

This porcelain vessel is wheel-thrown and bisque-fired, then fired a second time using the Saggar Ware technique.  In this process, I cover the pot with an iron wash and other natural materials, then wrap the piece in metal foil and fire it to 1250°. The combination of these materials create unique and interesting patterns and a final  waxing and buffing give the pot a smooth and polished surface. My final step is to create a one-of-a kind handle for the lid, using a variety of natural materials, such as Chinese bamboo root  and Maine beach stones.
