Birch Acadia Platter

$175.00

Hand-drawn rectangular tray with handles, 10″ X 17″.

Each piece is hand-drawn using the Sgraffito technique. Sgraffito (Italian: “to scratch”) is a decorating technique produced by applying layers of colored underglazes or slips to leather-hard pottery, then scratching through to create contrasting images and patterns that reveal the clay color underneath.  I use dental tools and choose a finer tool as the details grow smaller. Each piece is one-of-a-kind. This piece is a tribute to Acadia National Park’s centennial year.
